the water. The child will learn basic water adjustment including:
entry into the water, bubble blowing, rhythmic breathing
(bobs), front float, front glide, beginner stroke, back
float, and safety skills. The goal of this class is to push
off the wall to the instructor and do the following: front
float (5 seconds), front glide with kick 5 feet, beginner
stroke 5 feet and float on back unassisted for 5 seconds.
Class size (4). |

| The third level of our Preschool Swim Program
teaches the preschooler stroke readiness skills, which include
side breathing, introduction to crawl stoke, back sculling
with flutter kick, and keeling dives. The goal of this class
is to complete the following skills: front glide w/kick
(10 yds), side breathing with barbell, crawl stroke (10
yds), flutter kick with board 25 yds, jump and swim on back

4 return to top |
| |
| The fourth level of our Preschool Swim Program
teaches the preschooler stroke development skills. These
skills include crawl stroke with side breathing, back stroke,
elementary backstroke kick, treading water, and standing
dives. The goal of this class is to swim crawl stroke with
side breathing (15 yds), elementary back stroke kick (10
yds), back stroke, 15 yds, tread water 1 minute and standing
dive. After completing this level, the preschooler may enter
the Red Cross Learn to Swim Program at Level III - Otter.
Class size (4). |

|
| |
| 2. Seal return to top |
| |
| The objective of Level I is to help students
feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely.
The student learns elementary swimming skills including
water adjustment, buoyancy and breath control, water entry
and exit, locomotion skills, personal safety and rescue
skills. The goal of this class is to complete the following
skills: submerge face (3 seconds), front float and back
float supported, bubble blowing, supported kicking on front
and back, and reaching and pulling arm strokes. Class size
(5). |
| |
|
| |
| 3. Goldfish
return to top |
| |
| The objective of Level II is to give students
success with fundamental skills. Students learn to float
without support, and to recover to a vertical position.
This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills.
The goal is to complete the following skills: hold breath
and fully submerge head, retrieve objects from chest deep
water, front float (5 seconds), back float (5 seconds),
leveling off from vertical position, flutter kick with board,
turning over from front to back, swim beginner stroke (5
yds), back sculling (5 yds). Class size (5). |
| |
|
| |
| 4. Otter return to top |
| |
| The objective of Level III is to build on
the skills in Level II by providing additional guided practice.
Students will learn to coordinate the front and back crawl,
introduction to elementary backstroke, treading water, diving
and safety rules. The goal is to complete the following
skills: retrieve object with eyes open, front glide (2 body
lengths), back glide (2 body lengths), front crawl with
side breathing (10 yds), back crawl (10 yds), and elementary
back kick (10 yds). Class size (5). |
| |
|
| |
| 5. Salmon return to top |
| |
| The objective of Level IV is to develop confidence
in strokes learned thus far and to improve other aquatic
skills. Students will increase their endurance by swimming
familiar strokes (elementary back, front crawl and back
crawl) for greater distances than in Level III. Students
will also have an introduction to breaststroke and sidestroke
and basics of turning at the wall. The goal is to complete
the following skills: Deep water bobs, standing dives, elementary
backstroke (10 yds), sculling on back (15 seconds), front
crawl (25 yds), breaststroke kick (10 yards), and scissor
kick (10 yds). Class size (5). |
| |
|
| |
| 6. Piranha return to top |
| |
| The objective of Level V is coordination
and refinement of key strokes. Students will perform the
breaststroke, sidestroke and increase distances of front
crawl and back crawl. Students will be introduced to butterfly,
open turns, and feet-first surface dives. The goal is to
complete the following skills: breaststroke (10 yds), sidestroke
(10 yds), swimming underwater (3 body lengths), elementary
backstroke (25 yards), dolphin kick (10 yds), front crawl
(50 yds), back crawl (50 yds). Class size (5). |
| |
|
| |
| 7. Dolphin return to top |
| |
| The objective of Level VI is to polish strokes
so students swim them with more ease, efficiency, power
and smoothness over greater distances. Students develop
considerable endurance by the end of this course. After
completing this level, most students are ready for swim
team if they choose that competitive route. The goal is
to complete the following skills: front crawl and back stroke
(100 yds), breaststroke and sidestroke (25 yds), butterfly
(10 yds), and beginning flip turns. Class size (6). |
| |
|
| |
| 8. Barracuda
return to top |
| |
| The objective of Level VII is to perfect
stokes, and to develop good fitness habits. If a competitive
swim team environment does not suit your child, this level
is a good alternative. The goal is to complete the following
skills: review all skills in previous levels (swim 500 yards
continuously), crawl stroke and back stroke (200 yds), breast
stroke and sidestroke (50 yds), alternate side breathing
